Constitutional Confusion
I was listening to Rush Limbaugh today and was happy to hear him harping on the unconstitutionality of the health care bill and the Democratic chicanery to pass it through the House. But where was Rush's fidelity to the Constitution when the Bush administration was launching wars without a congressional declaration of war? Or when the Patriot Act was bum-rushed through Congress? Or when the Bushies were spying on Americans? Or when they were engaged in extraordinary rendition? Or...the list goes on and on.
Of course, one wonders where those who complained against the Bush administration's constitutional abuses are now that the Obama is doing many of the same things. Or where the Left can find constitutional justification for the health care bill? No wonder I've become a constitutional cynic. Like Lysander Spooner said, the Constitution "has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it."

John Adams said it best to paraphrase: "Our Constitution serves best a moral and religious society, without these social attributes the Constitution will fail". So where do you think we are today?

X, this is just more proof that the Anti-Federalists were right.

The general masses and main stream media only complain when the opposite party does something unconstitutional. Everyone hopped on Bushes bandwagon because he claimed he was declaring war, wiretapping, and Patriot acting for our own general protection.
It goes back to the big daddy government. Don't worry we'll take care of you. We're declaring war against Terrorism to protect you from harm. We have to do this wiretap. Why? Because anyone can be a terrorist. You just don't know who you can trust these days. Thankfully most people woke up to Bushes policies, but like so many other Gov't initiatives the damage was done. The Obama Administration is no different.
Now they're trying to add health care to the long list of services they provide. Only difference is that right now it's hip to be a democrat/liberal. Anyone who isn't is well just crazy.

Then general masses of people out there are sheep, uneducated sheep that have no idea whats really going on in politics. And the media doesnt help, they portray what they are told to. The healthcare reform is a joke! The government owns the banks, car companies, mortgage compaines, and now
our healthcare. You say that Obama administration is doing the samething that bush was, im sorry but its obvious that your wrong. Bush didnt want to burn through the countries cash surplus, the was Obama did. The stimulus package was a joke. It didnt boost our economy it got us farther in debt. The cash for clunkers was another scam thought up by the government to coax the american people into buying things they couldnt afford because what you and many others fail to see is this. The government wants us to fail.
The government wants us to go farther into debt with them they, want control over everything we can or cant do. Its called socialism. George W may not have done the best job, but atleast he wasnt trying to turn us into a socialist government like Obama is.

The Left-Right Paradigm is a distraction.
You say that Bush did not burn through the country's surplus cash, yet there was no surplus. When Bush took office was over $5 trillion already. He doubled nearly doubled it. Don't forget the bailouts started under Bush in 2007. What Obama has done is just an extension of those programs, building on the precedent that the Bushies set. Of course, Bush did this to "save the free market". In addition, Bush brought us the massive Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit program.
The difference between the Democrats and the Republicans is that the Republicans claim that they believe in "small government" while the Democrats make no such claims. In my book, that makes the Republicans worse than the Democrats since at least with the Democrats you know what you are getting.

Rush is in it to win . . . HIS.
But the pod cast was tight and I can't wait to read what you will have to say about what just happened on the hill about an hour ago.

Just as GW said (or at least it was attributed to him), "The constitution is just a 'GD' piece of paper." He was right. It is just a piece of paper that carries no mysterious power(s), else for the men and women who stand firm along side it. Where have all those people gone? I dare say there are precious few.

I agree with you about a lot of stuff, but I'm afraid I can't see eye to eye with you here. I know that this bill means a lot of people who would have been denied insurance in the past will now have it and thus will not die, and I see that as nothing but a good thing.
Speaking as somebody on the left, is it a good thing that there are ways to circumvent the constitution which both parties have used? No, I don't believe so. Having said that, while I'm no fan of all of Obama's policies (such as the continuing war in Afghanistan), I do not believe this bill is anywhere near as harmful as things like rendition or the Patriot Act. Please tell me what the worst case scenario here is, because I only see good coming of this.
Finally, I wouldn't put too much stock in anything Limbaugh has to say.
